Brant

This is a drawing I had done about 25 years ago. It is of a Mohawk Chief named Brant. His real name was Sa Ga Yeath Qua Pieth Tow. He was one of the four "Indian Kings" who had traveled to England to see Queen Anne in 1710.This is copied from a painting that was done when he was in England. The original artwork, which was done by a Dutch painter by the name of John Verelst, is hanging in a museum in Canada. I am not quite sure which one though. I wanted to draw him because I was so intrigued by his tattoos.

I did this in both pencil and colored pencil, using different techniques. The one to the left is the original painting.

Ah Zoitsa...

Koulourakia and Tsourekaki! Yum!!!
I wish I could bake them, or even better get them from Greece! No chance though...
My sister sent me Lambatha, you know the candle for the Anastasi. A pink one!
Have a good one...

What a great drawing, Zoe. Brant was a Canadian who founded the Mohawk Six-Nations alliance, if I remember grade 7 history (which was taken so many years ago it is now history!) correctly. The town of Brantford, Ontario, is named for him.

This is excellent, Zoe!

I am very impressed!
The tatoos are quite fascinating, too.

There certainly is a wealth of talent among our little blogger community!

Have you considered doing any more drawing at present?
I'm going to begin again as soon as I'm caught up with everything.
I got behind over the past year & it got worse when I was sick over the winter.

Love
Dale

I love this Zoe! The colors...your take on the original is...well, original!
I wish I could paint.
I have to learn how to do more than point and shoot my camera...that's as close as I'll ever come to painting/drawing.
Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog.
Take care,
Sue

Thankyou all for your genorous comments. They really give me inspiration to draw again. I finally broke down and had to get glasses(just for closeup work) so I will be able to see what I am doing now! I will be starting up again soon.
Dale, I will be looking forward to seeing more of your work. You are extremely talented. And Sue, taking pictures requires talent. That you have as you have shown us with your beautiful photos. I tell my mom about them.
And yes, EVERYONE in our blog community is very talented!!
Anne Marie, I find it fascinating that you were taught about Brant in your history class. I had to go to the library and read about him for myself. There was never a mention of him in our history books. And that is a sad thing as he was a part of American history also. Thanks for the info!
